Behind the Green Door

No, not THAT green door! The green door in which I am referring is that of my garden gate.

My garden is three years in the making and although it’s still way off from reaching maturity, it has come a long way since the summer of 2007 when I adopted this run down, neglected, forgotten orphan of a cottage which was sorely in need of TLC. Thus began a labor of love.

The yard was dead, literally and figuratively. Only petrified cat poo, weeds, and sandy, salty, parched earth made up the grounds of this place.

I had a lovely rusted out aluminum shed to contend with as well.

When it was first rototilled, not one earth worm reared its head. Yikes! Undaunted, I forged ahead to amend and restore. Little by little, loads and loads of compost were added and by the third layer of black gold, it finally seemed to come to life. Thanks, Cory for all your help!

Earth chi had been activated! I planted shrubs suited for this windy, salty, site, put in a lawn, (oh, get a life, why dontcha!), added flowers, whimsy and lots of love.

I highly recommend eliminating rusty aluminum sheds. Now I have a patio.

This is what I'm blessed with when I enter my garden gate. It has become a refuge.

I have so many clients who are in the same position with their houses. It can be overwhelming and they just don’t know where to begin, whether it be repainting their interior or adding curb appeal to their home’s exterior through paint. That’s where I enter the picture. If I can do it, so can you! Fearlessly, I will help you find direction. I can help you achieve a beautiful space full of life through the use color!

EB - it's beautiful! I just want to sit in your yard, take in the view with a nice glass of vino in hand. Nice job!
I hear ya on the rusty aluminum sheds. We have one. Gave it a paint job and that worked wonders! We would have torn it down, but needed the storage. And, the only "view" it blocks is of the fence. Not a big loss.

Kelly, thank you. I hope some day we can do just that... and talk color till the sun goes down.

Elizabeth! What a little slice of heaven you have there...it couldn't be more perfect. I'd be out there everyday...the water the flowers, the no-shed patio, all charming, a NW dream garden.

You not only have a green gate but also a very green thumb! Nicely done (great story too)!

(we have a root cellar shed that I'm scared to death of...it's cute on the outside but inside...someone could be buried in there!)

Thanks Jessica, and now that you've pretty much completed your amazing house in all its intricate detail, you now have this to look forward to. Just make sure you keep that snapdragon alive! I think it was an omen.
