Meet the Beetles

Back by popular demand, Retrofit Home, a very cool home furnishings and gift store on Capitol Hill in Seattle is presenting the art show "Hundred and Under" and once again, I am so fortunate to be included. As the name infers, all the pieces will be for sale for under $100.

This year I will be exhibiting my own little private beetle collection. Oh, you didn't know I was an entomologist? Each little piece, measuring 8" x 8", depicts a real beetle. Well actually, I got the images from a book. It was such an inspiration because they are so varied and so COLORFUL.

The opening reception for "Hundred and Under 2010" is December 9th from 5 to 10 pm. The show will be up until the end of January 2011. The address is 1103 E. Pike St.

See you there!

Hi Elisabeth,
Thank you for appearing on my blog and leaving a comment.
I live in a little town North East of Italy. Not far from famous Ravenna.
Those beetle designs are perfect base for mosaic by the way.
I have seen somewhere this design in mosaic and it looked great.

I'd love to come...I'll see if I can make it that night, if not, then I'll pop in and take a peek at another time for sure.

Elizabeth, these beetles are so appealing! They look wonderful together and yet they're each quite special that you could very easily pair them - triple them up or have one just on it's own and it'd be enough. Although, how one would choose which to buy is quite another matter... How did they sell?

Hi Heather.

Yes, they are pretty, aren't they? It is amazing how many species of beetles there are and how beautiful each one is. I originally had 12 of them grouped and glued onto a board, as if it was a "beetle collection." But since they were all on MDF board, the piece weighed a ton so I took it apart.

Two sold. The rest are in my Etsy shop which has been stealing my time lately because it is so much fun. http://www.etsy.com/shop/dragonsappetite?ref=si_shop

Have a nice weekend. It's 21 degrees F here. Let joy be unconfined!
